Today I want to talk to you about my transformative vision for our economy — one that moves us from a relentless pursuit of growth alone to a sustainable economy and an enduring prosperity.
For decades, we’ve been told that economic growth alone is the ultimate goal. More production, more consumption, more debt, and more expansion have been the markers of progress. But this approach has come at a cost: there’s a genuine inability for millions of Americans to feel economically secure, we witness environmental degradation, social inequality, and a growing sense of instability. It’s time to rethink what prosperity truly means.
A prosperity economy offers a new path forward—one that prioritizes balance and long-term well-being over short-term gains. It’s about creating an economy that grows but still fits within the planet’s ecological limits, ensuring that we use resources wisely and protect our environment for future generations.
It’s also about social sustainability. It means investing in our families and communities, promoting fair wages, providing universal basic healthcare for all, helping workers achieve a share of ownership in the companies they serve, and ensuring that everyone has access to the essentials of a good life. Instead of measuring success by GDP alone, we measure it by your health, your happiness and your prosperity.
In a prosperity economy, we still focus on growth, but growth alone isn’t the top priority. Businesses and farms thrive by being innovative and efficient, not by exploiting resources or people. We focus on quality over quantity, on durability over disposability.
It’s about redefining progress so that we can all share in the benefits of a thriving, balanced, resilient, and sustainable economy.
Together, we can turn the corner from an economy that only gets bigger but benefits fewer and fewer people to one that flourishes for the sake of true universal prosperity. It’s one of the key themes of my campaign – economic sustainability. And it's the key to building a better future for voters across the political spectrum.
“It’s time to turn the corner from a growth economy to a prosperity economy, and I invite you join me as we work to jumpstart this important issue for not only the residents of northeast Wisconsin but as a model for the rest of the world.”
